Rep / Competitive Team Try-Outs

Parkland Minor Ball is fully committed to offering competive high level Softball. Team rosters are formed following tryouts that determine the players demonstrated ability at the tryout sessions.  Each athlete will get at least two hours in a small group to demonstrate their abilities to the coaches.

Parkland Softball will be holding tryouts for Rep teams for the 2025 season. All interested athletes are invited to attend the free tryout. Selected athletes for the U15/U17/U19 Rep teams will have training in the off season. More details regarding time commitment and cost will be communicated at tryouts.

For 2025, Parkland is looking to field competitive A teams, but final team level will be determined once the team has been selected. If there is enough interest, Parkland will field competitive Rep teams in the A and B divisions.

Travel

Softball players can expect to travel in the Tri Area, Edmonton, Leduc, Sherwood Park, Beaumont, St. Albert, and surrounding area. GEMSA schedules the league games and does their best to reduce travel when possible. Teams may participate in a variety of tournaments both locally and around the province.

Cost

The costs of registration cover expenses such as insurance, equipment, use of jerseys, umpires and diamond rentals. Teams are required to cover their own travel, apparel, and tournament costs.  In the case of non parent paid coaches, the team will be responsible to cover 75-100% of the coaches honorarium (Rep Teams). A proposed budget will be presented for parent’s approval at the beginning of the season, after the team is selected.  This gives parents the opportunity to see the cost of participating on the team and in the Softball Program. The cost is often offset by team fundraising activities. The amount of fundraising required varies by team and depends on travel and tournament activity. Parents will be expected to contribute “seed money” to get the team budget a kickstart.
