General Information

PMBA’s Rep Program is for those players that are interested in and are committed to development and competition.  There are rep teams at levels from 11U to 18U, both at the AAA and AA levels.  After the spring season, there will also be an A level for these levels for players who are interested in trying rep ball for a shorter commitment.

Players on the 13U teams are 2011 & 2012 birth years.

Tryouts

Team rosters are formed following tryouts that determine the players demonstrated ability at the tryout sessions.  Each athlete will get at least two hours in a small group to demonstrate their abilities to the coaches. Tryouts will be held starting the beginning of March and finish by spring break.

Season

The season typically starts in April or May depending on the weather and field conditions and extending into August.  Post season play can extend into mid or late August. Games are typically played on the weekends, AAA program can expect to play nearly every weekend and AA can expect to play at least every second weekend. Please Baseball Alberta Calendar for full details. http://baseballalberta.com/

Travel

Rep players can expect to travel.  Baseball Alberta schedules the league games and does their best to reduce travel when possible or have teams take turn hosting. Each division in the rep program has a AA and AAA level (exception is 11U, only AA), teams typically participate in a variety of tournaments both locally and in other provinces and in some cases the U.S. Almost every team will participate in a provincial championship tournament at the end of the season, this tournament can be hosted anywhere in the province.

Cost

The costs of registration cover basic expenses such as insurance, equipment, some apparel and use of jerseys and diamond rentals. Teams are required to cover their own travel, umpire and tournament costs.  In the case of non parent paid coaches, the team will be responsible to cover 75-100% of the coaches honorarium. A proposed budget will be presented for parent’s approval at the beginning of the season, after the team is selected.  This gives parents the opportunity to see the cost of participating on the team and in the Rep Program. The cost is often offset by team fundraising activities. The amount of fundraising required varies by team and depends on travel and tournament activity (i.e. out-of-province travel to Western Canada or National Championships). Parents will be expected to contribute “seed money” to get the team budget a kickstart. For AA, this amount can be expected to be $900-$1200.  For AAA, this amount can be $1200-2000.

Rep Directors

PMBA has a junior and senior rep director who are responsible for setting up and overseeing the Rep Program throughout the season.
